Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has thanked US President Donald Trump for the respect he showed toward Serbia, stressing that relations between the two countries "will only move upward".
"I thank President Donald Trump for the respect he showed to our country and I believe that relations between Serbia and America will only move up," Vucic wrote on his Instagram account, as part of a post that shows Trump shared Vucic's interview with Breitbart on his Truth Social network.
In that interview Vucic among other things stated that Trump is much more popular in Serbia than any other US leader.
Vucic gave interview before leaving for Beijing last week, and it was published on Sunday. The Serbian president said that Trump enjoys "by far the most support" in Serbia compared to anywhere else in Europe and that not even US states like West Virginia, Kentucky or Louisiana can compare to the favorable stance on Trump in Serbia.
"What I can say is that I was surprised by some comments made in the press in the United States, where some other European countries were highlighted in the past as 'Donald Trump' strongholds, because it was very obvious to all of us that in Serbia he had by far the greatest support, during the election campaign, and that support even at that time exceeded 75 percent of those who declared themselves - which was not the case even in the United States. Nowhere else," said Vucic.
